REBEL RECYCLING IPAD APP
REBEL RECYCLING IPAD APP
Context • Design Problem • Constraints
Most of the discarded items and packaging people use every day end up in a landfill or get recycled into new materials. It can be a struggle to know what items, based on the material and the user’s current location, can be recycled or not. All cities and towns have different recycling processes and drop-off locations. The intent to properly dispose of various recycled materials, along with all the local regulations and restrictions from one area to another, can rarely allow an item to be properly recycled.

Result
Rebel Recycling educates people on what items they can recycle. Recycling options are presented using standardized symbols based on the person’s location and nearby processing plants.
Project Key Learnings
The problem an app is built to solve should not be buried by added features. It’s easy to lose track of the original vision over a relatively short amount of time unless a clear plan is created and referenced throughout the building process.
Conclusion
The Rebel Recycling application allows the user to quickly recycle materials based on their location. A large part of the design helps to teach the user about recycling in small bits of information over time. The Rebel Recycling project was a great way to gain experience in prototyping and development for user interface and user experience. Building the logo, icons, and other interactive elements provided insight into how a user gathers and moves through blocks of information.
